January 9, 2008 - "OCR will not be able to accept your complaint for investigation.  The Privacy Rule applies only to covered entities."  "Your correspondence indicates that you have collected information regarding how this shredding process operates.   It would be helpful to have such information for our reference when reviewing the activities of covered entities which are subject to the Privacy Rule, and which may at some point utilize the shredding trucks described in your complaint."     The trucks we're speaking of are the pierce-and-tear.  They acknowledged receipt of the provided information.

This office was looking for the best method to shred documents and possibly initiate a department shred policy.

December 2007 - "Everything you've said about this industry has proven to be true."

January 2008 - "Thank you for the samples.  They are wonderful.  That's exactly what I wanted to see.  Thanks to you, we're going with a company called ____________.  They're not necessarily the cheapest, but they provide the hammermill style shred.  Thanks for all your help and I'll keep your information on file for reference."

Congressman John E. Peterson's office

January 31, 2007 - "I believe the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) has taken action to resolve this issue.  Thank you for your interest in bringing this security/privacy issue forward; otherwise, this matter may not have been addressed for some time."
